Мойка - The Moyka  is a river in St. Petersburg.

  • secondary, in comparison with the Neva
  • it encircles the central portion of the city, effectively making it an island or a group of islands together with the Neva, Fontanka, Griboyedov Canal and other shorter canals
  • The river originates  in former swamp. It is 3 miles long and 130 feet wide
  • The river flows near the Summer Garden past the Field of Mars, crosses Nevsky Prospect before entering the Neva river
  • Magnificent 18th-century edifices lining the Moyka river include several estates-palaces, the New Holland Arch, Circular Market, St. Michael's Castle, and the last accommodation and museum of Alexander Pushkin

  • Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin was born 6 June 1799  and died 10 February 1837
  • a Russian poet, playwright, and novelist of the Romantic era
  •  He is considered by many to be the greatest Russian poet and the founder of modern Russian literature
  • Pushkin was born into the Russian nobility in Moscow
  • His father, Sergey Pushkin, belonged to an old noble family
  • His maternal great-grandfather was Major-General Abram Petrovich Gannibal, a nobleman of Sub-Saharan African origin who was adopted and raised in the Emperor's court household as his godson
  • He published his first poem at the age of 15, and was widely recognized by the literary establishment by the time of his graduation from the Lyceum
  • Upon graduation from the Lycée, Pushkin recited his controversial poem "Ode to Liberty", one of several that led to his exile by Tsar Alexander I
  • While under the strict surveillance of the Tsar's political police and unable to publish, Pushkin wrote his most famous play, the drama Boris Godunov. His novel in verse, Eugene Onegin, was serialized between 1825 and 1832
  • Pushkin was fatally wounded in a duel with his wife's alleged lover and her sister's husband Georges-Charles de Heeckeren d'Anthès, also known as Dantes-Gekkern, a French officer serving with the Chevalier Guard Regiment.

  • The Revolutionary Military Committee established by the Bolshevik party was organizing the insurrection and Leon Trotsky was the chairman
  • However, Lenin played a crucial role in the debate in the leadership of the Bolshevik party for a revolutionary insurrection as the party in the autumn of 1917 received a majority in the soviets
  • An ally in the left fraction of the Revolutionary-Socialist Party, with huge support among the peasants who opposed Russia's participation in the war, supported the slogan 'All power to the Soviets

  • is a state-owned polling institution established in 1987
  • known as the All-Union Center for the Study of Public Opinion until 1992
  • VTsIOM is the oldest polling institution in post-Soviet Russia and one of Russia's leading sociological and market research companies.

Russia Day called Day of adoption of the declaration of state sovereignty of RSFSR before 2002, is the national holiday of the Russian Federation.
